Jackie’s Turkey and Stuffing

The perfect turkey and best stuffing for a Thanksgiving feast!

Time: 4 hours (ish)

Serves: 8

Ingredients:

  • 1 turkey

For the stuffing:

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 8 slices of fresh bread, coarsely cubed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon ground sage
  • 1 cup dried cranberries
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth

Directions:

  1. Melt the butter in a pan. Saute onions and celery until tender. Combine remaining ingredients with onions and celery. Either stuff the turkey or place in a large casserole dish and bake covered for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.
  2. To roast the turkey, rinse and remove the giblets and neck.
  3. Place stuffing in cavity if not cooking separately.
  4. Seal up the cavity with tin foil or small skewers.
  5. Place turkey, breast side up, in a shallow roasting pan. Rub generously with butter. Tie wings and legs down so that it look like the shape of a football. Do not cover.
  6. Place on the lower rack of an oven preheated to 450 degrees. Cook at this temperature for 30 minutes.
  7. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue cooking until internal temperature on meat thermometer is 180 degrees (approximately 3 hours). Let the turkey sit for 30 minutes before carving.
